[RANK5=John Hyon Ko] Colby Covington might be one of the most hated in Brazil but he will be going back into enemy territory to chase after his first world title against Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 224 which was initially reported.
However, the actual location for this bout was announced during the 25th Anniversary Press Conference in New York City. Covington and Dos Anjos will officially meet in Chicago as the co-main event of UFC 225 on June 9.
Covington, the 30-year-old American Top Team representative, has slowly risen up the ranks over the past few years while getting under the skin of many other elite fighters. He has ripped off five in a row and his last victory against former title-challenger Demian Maia propelled him into this position.
The man stepping in on the other side of the cage, Rafael Dos Anjos, has done an exceptional job since moving up to welterweight. The former UFC lightweight champion soundly defeated Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny and Robbie Lawler in a span of six months to earn his spot in this title fight.
Many criticize the matchup since current welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has defended his title multiple times but when he returns from shoulder surgery in July he would have been out a total of 12 months.
Basically, this interim title fight will determine who will take on Woodley most likely during International Fight Week that same month he is scheduled to return to action.
UFC 225 will be headlined by Robert Whitaker and Yoel Romero for the UFC middleweight title.
