[랭크5=고현 기자] On location in Phuket, John Hyon Ko of Kumite TV caught up with Mel Zeman before her fight versus Chelsea Hackett at Eternal MMA 45 on May 25th in Southport, Australia.
The young Australian prospect spoke about her life on the island of Phuket training at Tiger Muay Thai, the struggles of living abroad as a struggling fighter, the development she has had in the past two years, and more.
Notable excerpts from the interview:
John Hyon Ko: “Since moving over [to Thailand], how has your development been going?”
Mel Zeman: “It’s phenomenal, you know, you can’t beat the coaching and training over here. The level of talent that walks onto the mats every day. You got everyone from One FC fighters, Bellator fighters, Invicta fighters, you have UFC fighters. All training on the same mat. You can’t really beat that level of intensity!”
John Hyon Ko: “Are there any struggles as an up-and-coming fighter here in Phuket?”
Mel Zeman: “I think….it’s kind of hard. There is a fair bit of competition to be seen and to be recognized over here. There is a large pool of talent, a large depth of people which is great for your growth as a fighter but when you’re someone trying to be recognized on the scene. Some people will find that as a little setback but I think for your overall growth it’s probably a good thing in the long run. And money struggles, obviously. A young fighter moving overseas and bringing your life here is quite a costly way to do it but it is definitely worth it.”
John Hyon Ko: “Talk about [Eternal MMA 45] and your thoughts on [Chelsea Hackett]?”
Mel Zeman: “I believe Chelsea is a Muay Thai girl and that is about as far I have looked into it! I really wanted to focus on myself and how I’m preparing for the fight rather than what my opponent might do.”
