[랭크5=고현 기자] UFC Seoul is in the final stages of being official for February 2019.
UFC Fight Night 79 was held in Seoul to a crowd of almost 12,000 spectators at Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium on November 28, 2015. Many of the hometown heroes like “Superboy” Choi Doo-Ho, former lightweight champion Benson Henderson, Kim Dong-Hyun (both), and ‘Sexyama” Choo Sung-Hoon competed on that successful night.
Ever since then, the people have been clamoring for another entertaining live event.
Now, the wait seems to be over.
According to SPOTV’s Lee Gyo-Dok, an official who asked for anonymity stated on October 16 that the UFC is planning an event.
However, the stadium is only one obstacle standing in the way of Korea having their second-ever show.
The Las Vegas-based promotion has very strict standards and a variety of conditions that need to be met such as size, capacity, location, traffic, and facilities. According to a survey done by the UFC, the leading candidate that fits this criterion is Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium.
The official said, “If the stadium is decided, the selection of the athletes and matchups will be carried out immediately. Ticket booking will begin once the main event is announced.”
“Stun Gun” Kim Dong-Hyun and many other South Korean fighters have expressed interest in competing once word got around that the next Seoul event is happening in February of next year.
The UFC is planning on having an event across the globe every week in the first quarter of 2019. With such a busy schedule planned ahead for the organization, nothing is guaranteed.
If the event does not commence in February, the promotion will be forced to move it to the second half of the year, as stated by the official.
