[RANK5=John Hyon Ko] Trevin “5 Star” Jones is no stranger to close fights but this has changed in the last few years of his career. In his last appearance at TFC 16, the Guam native took on submission specialist Jae-Hyun So in the semifinal round of TFC’s Bantamweight Tournament. Even though Jones had been out for an extended period of time and went through some complications with his weight cut in his last scheduled bout, he patiently worked So and finished him with punches in the third frame.
On that same night, Young-Jin Hwang took on Myung-Gu Kim in the other semifinals match and got the unanimous decision win in a back and forth affair. Unfortunately, Hwang injured his hand which prolonged the finals but now he is all healed and ready to go.
The current PXC Bantamweight Champion will try to add another strap in his collection when he faces off against Young-Jin Hwang in the main event of TFC 18 on May 25 in Seoul, South Korea.
In this interview, Trevin Jones spoke with John Hyon Ko about having a staph infection in his semifinals fight, his preparations in Las Vegas leading up to TFC 18, how he stacks up against Young-Jin Hwang, getting his black belt in jiu-jitsu, UFC vet Kwan-Ho Kwak and more.
