[RANK5=John Hyon Ko] The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title for the fourth time against heavy-handed Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 in Boston on January 20, 2018.
The 38-year-old Cormier is coming off a knockout loss to Jon Jones at UFC 214 that was turned into a no contest when Jones was flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a banned substance and was stripped of the title by the promotion. As a result, the AKA legend was reinstated and scheduled to face another challenger.
Oezdemir, on the other hand, is riding into this championship match on a 5-fight winning streak. Beating the likes of Ovince St. Preux, Misha Cirkunov, and Jimi Manuwa in his last three has propelled him into the spotlight. With the power and youth that the Swizz fighter brings to the table, he is a major threat to the current champ.
Will it be another successful defense for Cormier or will Oezdemir be able to connect with those massive shots to take out one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time?
